Diwali is a holiday celebrated in Southern India. This was the day that Lord Krishna defeated the demon named Narakasura. It also celebrates the goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and good fortune. During this holiday, it is customary to light it up. Many candles are lit, and lots of fireworks (not the noisy kind). This is symbolic of the inner light that protects us from spiritual darkness. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil.
